Nick grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio and graduated from Oberlin College with a B.A. in Liberal Arts in 2007. While studying at Oberlin, he pursued his interest in East Asian history, literature and art. He spent his junior year abroad studying Japanese culture and language at Doshisha University via the Associated Kyoto Program. During this time he stayed with a loving host family in Kamikatsura. Yoshiko, his host mother, has dyed her hair bright blue since the sixties. The recipient of a Freeman ASIA grant, Nick has given talks in high schools and colleges about financing education abroad.
While studying abroad, Nick realized the importance of traditional and emerging forms of media and decided to approach the subject in a cutting edge, hands-on environment. This led him to the University of Oregon, where he earned a M.A. in magazine journalism in 2008. While attending classes, Nick completed a half year internship at KLCC 89.7 FM, Eugene, a NPR affiliate. He was an on-air voice and producer for "News at Noon" and "Northwest Passage."
Since then Nick's articles have appeared in a variety of publications including alternative weeklies, regional magazines and national magazines. Nick ghost writes and edits material for several Web sites and the ACT English Test. His other writing interests include music, health, science, technology and pets.
He began reporting for the Rawlins Daily Times as a staff writer in December 2009. He currently resides in Rawlins, Wyoming, where you can usually find him on the floor, playing with his many animal friends.
