Nick is a regular contributor to the underground music havens Skyscraper Magazine and StonerRock.com. He writes in-depth features, interviews, and reviews for both publications. His other music-related writing has appeared in nationally distributed magazines such as Metal Maniacs Hails & Horns and High Times. His blog deals with music, the arts, and subculture.
During his 2007-2008 stay in Oregon, Nick wrote several articles for the local alternative paper, Eugene Weekly, well-known for its bold coverage of social issues. His work included independent film reviews, concert previews, and bar reviews.
While attending graduate school for magazine journalism at the University of Oregon, Nick interned at KLCC 89.7 FM, Eugene (NPR). He reported on a variety of topics including local and national politics, health, science, agriculture, the environment, and arts. These pieces appeared on the regional segments of “Morning Edition,” “News at Noon,” “North West Passage,” and “All Things Considered.”
Nick is especially interested in health and alternative healing. His piece “Demystifying Acupuncture” will appear in the Fall issue of Eugene Magazine. His profile on music thanatologist Gary Plouff, “Life, Death, and Music” is slated for the Fall issue of Alternatives.
In addition to homo sapien centric writing, Nick loves to write about animals. His article “Stray Thoughts,” which discusses the practical ways to approach stray animals, will be featured in the Fall issue of Spot Magazine. Animal acupuncture is the topic of several of his unpublished articles. His animal companions Basti and Riley are also writers.
Now residing in Ohio, Nick contributes to Cleveland Scene. Alternative weeklies, he believes, are one of the most important outlets in the digital age, and are the site of cultural and social change. He is also the founding member of two writing circles, one digital and one face-to-face.
